Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American actress and singer whose acting variety earned her acclaim in a variety of genres ranging from period drama to action and thriller. Johansson daughter of an architect and a producer was brought up as a child in New York City. Hunter, her twin brother, and she were the youngest of four kids. From a young age she began to develop a passion for acting and began performing in commercials by the age seven. She was enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute shortly following and then went to the Professional Children's School, Manhattan to further her education. In the Off Broadway play Sophistry she acted alongside Ethan Hawke. She then appeared in her first film in North (1994) and was written by Rob Reiner, at age nine. Johansson was next seen as a character in Just Cause (1995), before making her big break by starring in Manny & Lo - a story of two sisters and orphans, who manage to get away. The Horse Whisperer (1998) Johansson, who plays the role of a teenager with a an ailment, was well-loved by the critics. In the following years, she gained fame as the cynical teenager Rebecca In Ghost World.
